Our scope of work included the removal and replacement of existing roof and wall cladding, the removal and replacement of structural steel members including purlins, girts and bridging and the removal and reinstatement of necessary services. The OLA shelter hangars are located airside in a high-security zone at the RAAF Base. Apollo management and all subcontractors were required to undertake Level 1 Airside Training and obtain a Level 2 security base pass for escorting privileges to conduct the project works. As the project was undertaken within a Foreign Objects and Debris (FOD) exclusion zone, Apollo implemented stringent measures to ensure that there were no loose construction materials and waste on site which might have impacted any aircraft utilising the runway and hangars. With the project site a known nesting ground for Fairy Martin birds, the team engaged an ecologist to inspect the site for wildlife at regular intervals and safely relocate any nesting. The project was completed with no FOD incidents and delivered five weeks ahead of the contract program.
